As a regulatory Board the mission of the Board of Barber Examiners is to promote public health and safety by assuring that barbers are appropriately trained and demonstrate the skills necessary to conduct barber services in a safe, sanitary, and appropriate environment. The Board’s licensing and inspection processes are designed to assure that barbers and barbershops meet or exceed the legislative and Board established criteria designed to protect public health and safety.
The Board has the authority to investigate and take action when a violation of Minnesota Statutes Chapter 154 or Minnesota Rules Chapter 2100 has occurred. The Board of Barber Examiners has no authority to refund money or regulate the fees charged for barbering services by a licensee.
The Board has a Complaint Committee, as authorized by Minnesota Statute Chapter 214, consisting of two Barber Board members appointed by the Board Chair. Board staff provide support and assistance to the Committee in gathering information and processing complaints. A designee from the Attorney General Office provides legal counsel to the Committee. The Board of Barber Examiners Complaint Committee meets in closed session on a bimonthly schedule. Additional meetings are scheduled when necessary.
Complaints are evaluated on a case by case basis based on the facts related to the particular situation.
The Board complaint process requires a written complaint be submitted.
